1X1 ALUMNAE
The International Archive of Women in Architecture (IAWA) commemorates its 40th anniversary this year!
To celebrate, the IAWA Center is hosting the “1x1 VT Alumnae” call for submission of work. The 1x1 VT Alumnae asks every alumna from the Architecture Program at Virginia Tech, who graduated between 1969 and 2025 from the undergraduate, masters, and/or Ph.D programs, in Blacksburg and/or Alexandria, to submit a drawing or flat piece authored by her in the past that embodies a breakthrough –a revelatory moment in her education or career (inclusive of all non-conventional career paths). We invite the extensive alumni community to encourage all Virginia Tech alumnae in their networks to contribute to this unique collection. (Please share!)
Please register to the 1x1 VT Alumnae MAILING LIST to receive all the relevant communications pertaining to the initiative and its related public events.
The 1x1 VT Alumnae MAILING LIST registration offers you the chance to tell us about your journey to date. We’d love to hear about the path you’ve taken since your time at Virginia Tech, whether it has been within architecture, an adjacent field, or a completely different direction. We’d also like to hear about what you are currently working on. Please share a little about your current role, projects, or focus. Whether you are designing, teaching, researching, managing, or exploring other creative avenues, we are excited to learn about your work.
There is no cost to participate! But your participation in this initiative is of great value to the School of Architecture and the IAWA, and will help expand our shared knowledge of architecture. Celebrate the IAWA’s anniversary with us by contributing to the 1x1 VT Alumnae Collection!
The IAWA Center will host a public exhibition of the collected work with an opening reception in the Spring (dates to be determined). The submission deadline is now January 20, 2026.
It takes time to reflect and go through your personal archive to find a pivotal piece or select one of your pieces that embodies a pivotal instance along your path. Save the date and don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful and truly important collection!
Once you are ready to submit your package please register the submittal using the required form. You can submit anytime and through January 20, 2026. The information gathered with this form, which includes a photo of the work you are submitting, will allow us to organize the collection and plan the exhibit.
