Jane Hastings

Jane Hastings was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and received a B.Arch. from the University of Washington in 1952. An architect and founder of The Hastings Group – Architects, Hastings was the eighth woman to be licensed in the state of Washington in 1953. Her firm worked on over 500 residential projects in the Seattle region, along with smaller commercial and university facility remodels, Sea-Tac Airport renovations, the I-90 bridge approach, and the historic restoration of an Indian tribal building. Hastings served as the president of the Seattle chapter of the AIA in 1975, became a Fellow of the AIA in 1980, and served as the first woman chancellor of the College of Fellows in 1992.
Her IAWA collection includes drawings, presentation boards, photographs, and printed materials, as well as certificates, diplomas, professional stamps, and drafting tools. The printed materials include copies of newspaper and magazine articles documenting various completed projects, as well as material gathered at the congresses of the International Union of Women Architects (UIFA) in which she participated between 1969 and 1998.
